As for resolving the problem, since the error message suggests contacting HEC for assistance, it would be advisable to reach out to HEC for further guidance on how to fix the issue with the program.

in HEC-HMS 4.11 in Mac laptop, I press processing sinks and it finishes in one second without working

A
Answer by Ashish Bajaj

It seems that there might be an issue with the processing sinks and drainage feature in HEC-HMS 4.11 on your Mac laptop. It's finishing quickly without actually working. There could be several reasons causing this behavior, such as incorrect settings or a software bug. It would be recommended to check the program's documentation, seek help from the software support team, or consult online forums for troubleshooting advice specific to HEC-HMS and Mac systems.

I'm getting the error "ERROR 10352: No recording gages exist" on HEC HMS. The model is complete, with precipitation and discharge gages. I also get the note: NOTE 10604: 1 missing or invalid values for gage "72530000". I've checked all the values for discharge gages and they are complete. Does anyone know about this error?

There is no information about this error because as it seems, the software is not publicly available and it's instead provided "in-house". This is an application used in government area which means you will have to take advantage of the support offered through proper channels.

Luckily, the software is still supported and there are ways to get in touch with the support team.

Access the link posted below and get in touch with the proper person.

I try to install the HEC HMS version 4.2.1 with Windows 10, but I found that the text and the icon in the water sheet explorer window and in the message window is too small. How to increase the icon and text size?

A
Answer by Alex Urbach

I've installed the application and it appears there is no way to change the program's font size at all. I've access the Program settings, but without any results which means this is a problem caused by the DPI settings in Windows.

Here's how to fix it: go to Start > Settings and type Display in the search box. Afterwards, look in the image below and chance scaling. Reboot the PC and you should see the fonts bigger, based on the value you choose in the display settings.

Hello!

I am using HEC-HMS 4.1 for simulating a daily two-years period.
Simulation Info:

Basin:
I have one basin. Loss = Soil Moisture Accounting, Transform = unit Hydrograph, no baseflow.

Meteorological setting: Precipitation = Gage weights

My main question is about optimization of the loss method parameters, I change all of them, but there is no significant variation in the outflow hydrograph except impervious parameter.
I even use optimization trial to find the best value for each parameter, but the process bar jumps to finish after 40 percent, and when I check the optimization results, the optimized values are equal to initial values. Is there any solution for this problem?

I will appreciate if someone helps me.

Many Thanks
Javanamrd.

I've run a search for this inquiry and was impressed with the number of results listed through Google Search. Since the documents contain too much information to present here, I recommend you check them as well. The files are in PDF or or DOC format and contain comprehensive information related to the procedure you have explained above.

How to model a full round riser with stop logs in an HEC-HMS model?

R
Answer by Robert Polubinski

What you asked probably requires much knowledge about the HEC-HMS application, because I've searched on Google and related website, but couldn't find anything about it. There is some vague information, but nothing specific. I recommend checking its built-in Help system because that's the place where you'll most likely find similar details and content.

As a starting point, visit the Documentation page where you'll find enough files to get started.

I just want to ask if it is okay to use only two parameters in HEC-HMS? In my study I only used two parameters (Loss- SCS Curve Number, Transform- SCS Unit Hydrograph). I used that parameter base on the data I have. My concern is whether the data (result) I obtained using that two parameters is still good or reliable?

A
Answer by Alex Urbach

Yes, the data is reliable, but the two parameters operation should be used for Clark unit hydrograph method. I didn't see anything else related to this procedure where you use only two parameters to generate the data. For every other method or operation, two parameters are not enough and you should use the full data range to obtain reliable data.

You can download the following data file for the HEC-HMS software to learn more about it: http://redac.eng.usm.my/EAD/EAD513/HEC-HMS_paper.pdf

I'm using HEC-HMS to estimate flood flow in ungauged basins associated with highway projects that intersects many watercourses, where stream discharge data were not available for calibration and validation. However, historical precipitation data are available only for some locations. Is there any method to verify the HEC-HMS peak flow results?

S
Answer by Sean Hill

Since this software requires knowledge in the area, I recommend checking the available usage guide and the quick start guide. You will find all the details regarding software's functionality and how to work with different parameters.

Note: You need a compatible PDF reader installed in your computer.

I use the daily data (precipitation and discharge) for simulation, but there is a problem and the Outlet flow of simulation is so more than observation flow. How can I solve this problem? Is there anyone who can help me?

Answer by Alex Urbach

You can find information about this request in the PDF file available for downloading. The page for this request is 80. Adobe Reader is required to open the files. The file is directly provided by the HEC company. I opened the document, and got the information explaining how to model a flow within the application.
